Research. Infrastructure. Speed.
Latency is a limit.
We keep pushing.
Every connection takes time. Our work is to question how much.
Quantitative research and infrastructure engineering in pursuit of lower latency.
The research mindset
Every delay
deserves a question.
A message arrives. Software handles it. A connection carries it onward. At every step, time passes.
UltraFIX starts with a question: where could that time be reduced? We bring quantitative analysis to the connection itself, exploring how processing, infrastructure and timing variability shape latency.
Understanding the journey gives the research its direction. Every delay becomes something to investigate.
Measure carefully.
Question constantly.
Infrastructure, under scrutiny
Performance
is in the details.
Understanding the delay is where the work begins.
From there, the question moves into the infrastructure. How does software handle a message? Which path does the connection take? What changes when the environment changes?
We consider these decisions together. The aim is to find room for improvement across the system, then keep asking what could be refined further.
- Processing
- Following the message through the software to explore where processing adds time.
- Connection paths
- Tracing the connection to understand how infrastructure and network choices influence timing.
- Consistency
- Looking at how timing varies, so the research considers the behaviour of the connection over time.
Actual performance depends on the environment and connection path.
Protocols & possibilities
Built on what works.
Curious about what's next.
In use today
FIX 4.4
Our current connectivity software uses FIX 4.4. It is the practical foundation for our work on latency and infrastructure, and a starting point for the questions that follow.
Research directions
That curiosity also takes us beyond the protocol we use today. Different application messages, session designs and encodings open new questions about the way systems communicate.
- FIX 5.0
- Application messaging
- FIXT 1.1 & FIXP
- Session architecture
- SBE
- Binary encoding
These are areas of exploration. Current product connectivity uses FIX 4.4.
